Etiology
Probably developmental defects.

Pathogenesis
Developmental inclusion of secretory cells within the
hepatic parenchyma results in the progressive accumulation
of fluid and the development of a cyst.,

Epidemiology
Much more common in males (4:1 to 5:1)
Usually detected in adulthood as asymptomatic masses.
|
General Gross Description
Usually in the right lobe of the liver
Can be quite large, up to 20 litres in capacity

General Microscopic Description
Simple cysts lined by cuboidal to columnar epithelium. Examples:

Clinical Correlation
Usually asymptomatic
Usually detected at necrospy
Sometimes may present as fullness in the epigastric area
