Pathogenesis

derives from germinal (surface) epithelium
?epithelium pinched off into ovarian stroma following rupture of follicle
may undergo metaplasia and secretion,
Epidemiology

reproductive age women
General Gross Description

may achieve enormous size
smooth external surface
unilocular cyst or one with few septae
contains clear, yellow, slimy fluid
smooth, thin lining

columnar epithelium with mucin containing cells
usually identical to endocervical or intestinal epithelium
bland stroma
