| General Gross Description Red in the young individual; yellow and fatty in the older individual Examples: | ||
| General Microscopic Description In adult life the ratio of marrow elements to fat is 1:1 Admixture of myeloid cells and erythroid cells in a ratio of 3:1 Approximately 60% of cells are myeloid precursors including promyelocytes, metamyelocytes, myelocytes (with specific granules) and immature basophils, eosinophils and neutrophils Approximately 20% of cells are erythroid precursors with round dark nuclei Ten percent of cells are lymphoid including plasma cells Scattered megakaryocytes are also seen With age the marrow to fat ratio declines Examples: | ||
