General Microscopic Description
• Epineurium is outer connective tissue surrounding nerve composed of fibroblasts and mast cells.
• Perineurial cells, similar to pia-arachnoid cells, envelope individual fascicles in layers of cells with intervening collagen, forming blood-nerve barrier.
• Endoneurium contains nerve fibers (myelinated or unmyelinated), Schwann cells, fibroblasts, capillaries and mast cells.
• Schwann cell nuclei compose most of the nuclei seen in the endoneurium and are delicate and wavy with pointed ends.
