• Variety of guns including handguns, semiautomatic weapons, rifles and shotguns.

Pathogenesis
• Bullet transmits kinetic energy to tissue
• Damage related to bullet type, distance from target, and materials that the bullet traversed before striking the organ.,

Epidemiology
• Epidemic proportions in U.S. with >30,000 deaths/year in the 90's
• Among top 10 causes of death in the U.S.
• Particular problem in children (accidental) and young adults (homicide)

General Gross Description
• Irregular perforations of the bowel accompanied by acute hemorrhage.
