General Gross Description

smooth external surface
predominantly solid although may be cystic
necrosis and hemorrhage
hair, keratinaceous debris, bone and cartilage
•Examples:
Immature Teratoma
General Microscopic Description

IMMATURE (FETAL) tissues from all three germ cell layers
immature neural elements are common and may correlate with outcome
•Examples:
Immature Teratoma of Ovary (10X) Immature Teratoma of Ovary (20X) Immature Teratoma of Ovary (10X) Immature Teratoma of Ovary (20X) Immature Teratoma of Ovary (40X)
Clinical Correlation

women under 21 with abdominal pain and enlargement
Stage I confined to the ovary, II confined to the pelvis, III confined to peritoneal cavity, IV distant metastases
treat Stage I with surgery and chemotherapy as warranted
