| General Microscopic Description • Surface covered by amniotic epithelium lying on a compact connective tissue layer on top of the amniotic mesoderm • Spongy layer separating amniotic from chorionic mesoderm • Bottom of the chorionic mesoderm contains trophoblasts lying over subchorionic (Langhans) fibrin or fibrinoid • Fetal vessels are located in the chorionic plate; differentiating between fetal arteries and veins histologically is not easily accomplished • Stem villi depend from chorionic plate •Examples: | ||
