| General Microscopic Description •Large and small arteries, <1cm in diameter have 3 layers, intima, media, and adventitia. •Intima is thin and includes the endothelium, an underlying thin layer of connective tissue containing smooth muscle. An elastic fiber layer, the elastica interna, demarcates the intima from the media. •Media is thickest layer and is made up of smooth muscle and collagen fibers.
